Located in Eixample district of Barcelona, on the Paseo de Gracia, The Casa Mila or La Pedrera is one of the outstanding works of Antoni Gaudi.
The construction of early 20th century breathes the modernist spirit that extends in Europe since late 19th century. It is also called Art Nouveau, Liberty, Jugendtsil and can be observed in Brussels, Vienna, Milan, Glasgow or Riga architecture landscape.
Built by the Catalan architect Gaudi in between the years 1905-1910, La Pedrera has been designed as a commercial and residential project for Mila’s Family. Once again Gaudi broke conventional architecture by constructing the whole building with no use of straight lines. The construction rests on pillars and arches and together with the use of steel allowed to create irregular floor plans. Josep Maria Jujol completed the façade with improvised on spot, iron-wrought balconies. The roof is probably the most impressive of La Pedrera. It features a number of surrealistic colorful chimneys also called “The warriors”. During the summer, you can enjoy a glass of Cava and some live concerts. Today the wavy façade and inclined columns of La Pedrera is part of the Paseo de Gracia landmark as well as Casa Batllo, Casa Amatler or Casa Fuster
