Built in 1714 by Philip V to defend the city, the biggest military citadel in Europe was offered by the general Prim in 1869 to Barcelona. For the International exhibition of 1888, Rius I Taulet decided to demolish the old citadel to edified the park you can still visit today.
Ciutadella is mostly appreciated to take a breath of fresh air in a peaceful green area away of the city noises. Inside the park, you can also visit the Zoo, the parliament of Catalunya, the museum of Catalunya, the zoologic museum, the hivernacle,, “El carro de l’Aurora” cascade and many Catalan Artist’s statues.
