At the end of the 19th century, Pere Romeu was working as a waiter at the cabaret "Le Chat Noir". Back in Barcelona he decided to create a similar restaurant where he will offer food and Music. Inaugurated in 1897, the restaurant was opered in a Building of Puig i Cadafalch, well know architect.
In 1899, Picasso aged of 17, use to hang out in the 4 Gats and had his first exhibition in the great room.
Today, 4 Gats is one among more than 100 centanarian in Spain. It offers a well selected Catalan dishes. Starters, fish, meats and delicious desserts, as well as a wide selection of the finest wines of the country are blended in a modernist and bohemian atmosphere that recalls the essence of the old days.
