Not too far from the Ramblas, walking in direction of the sea, you will get to Barceloneta. Built during the 18th century, Barceloneta has a triangular shape and is divided in 3 different neighbourhood : Port Vell, La Ribera and el Puerto Olympico. El port Vell accommodates yachts and sealing boats all the way to the door of the city, as 500 years ago when Christopher Colombo leaved for America. As a small Village in a big town, La Ribera district is the heart of Barceloneta and use to be the fishermen district feeding Barcelona in fresh seafood. Today you can still feel this fishermen prints in the Small Streets of Barcelona and try one of the delicious seafood restaurant. Puerto Olympico, built for the Olympic games of 1992, is famous for its numerous Restaurants and clubs along the beach. It also hosts the 5 stars hotel Arts and its casino. From April to October, the all Barceloneta turns into a fresh oasis where insiders and tourists enjoys the sun and delicious cocktails in a Chiringuito, typical Barcelona beach bars. La Torre Marenostrum from famous architects Tagliabue and Miralles and the polemic Hotel Vell is also located in Barceloneta.
